The LHS Alumni Association held an Open House for all LHS graduates on July 3rd at the old High School on Mulberry Hill (Stanbery Campus).  They plan to hold this event annually on or near the July 4th date.

Called “Gale Pride on the 4th”, the 2011 event will be held at the current Lancaster High School.  A number of activities are being planned for alumni and friends.

Due to the increase in mailing costs for 29,000 graduates of LHS, future newsletters will probably be electronic such as on a website.  Click on www.lancaster.k12.oh.us to check on current information.

We’ll try to include some of the information on our website.

LHS Alumni Association Update

A long, long time ago I was your Class President. I was asked to list some awards, achievements and family interests in my life.

First is my family.  I have two daughters Kim and Chris, wife Judy and most important of all a grandson Aiden (now 16 months old).  I have been blessed with the perfect life.

The second thing may surprise you.  I want to tell you how over the years people taught me to respect others.  The relatives you have - aunts, uncles, grandparents, dads and moms.  Then there were parents of classmates Bob Holliday, Phil Keller and Linda Hizey just to name a few.

After graduation I worked at Anchor Hocking and am now retired. I met and became friends with many brothers, sisters, dads and moms of classmates such as Claudine’s family, and the Torrence, Whitcraft, White, Timberlake families.  There were several cases where I knew the family  members better than my classmates.

Then when I would see some of my classmates Marilyn Strawn, Bill Koska, Linda Torrence, Paul and Charles Beery, Howard Duffy, Sandy Garey, Bob Holliday, Sue Baker and many others, they would light up a room with their smile and always make you feel great.

What does this mean?  I learned from all these people how to be a better man, treat people with respect and love everything around you and much more.  My friends are many, a hand shake, twenty minute talk and classmates - friends forever.

P.S.  You never accomplish or receive an award on your own - you always need help.

Notes from Classmates

Edward McDonald, married to Linda 49 years, two wonderful kids, two grandchildren, living in Newark, OH   He retired from the US Army in 2000.   If any classmate wants to sell their gold and silver please contact him.  He will donate part of the proceeds to a worthy cause you may choose.  E-mail address is msgmac_27@juno.com

Don & Pam McGee leave for Germany to finish the research on her family in Nord Rhein-Westphalen. Don has just discovered his family were classified as Irish when, indeed, they were from a large number of Scots who worked in Ireland.  He now has a kilt to celebrate his Scots background.

In order to help pay for this website, any small donation would be appreciated.  Make checks payable to Class of 1957 and send to Betty (Buckingham) Garlinger, 634 N Columbus St, Lancaster, OH 43130.

At this time Jerry Stebleton has a copy of the roster.  Please send him any changes in mailing addresses, phone numbers, e-mails, and deaths of classmates.

This website is being maintained by Pam Kilpatrick, daughter of Claudine Clinton.

After LHS, I went to college in D.C. then to medical school in California. I graduated with my M.D. from Loma Linda University in 1965. After a year at Kettering Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio as an intern I took my specialty training in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland finishing in 1969. Uncle Sam called and I served my two years in the Public Health Service in Ft. Worth, Texas.

I then moved back to Dayton, Ohio and began my 32 years in the private practice of general psychiatry. About one third of my time was devoted to building new mental health programs. Wright State University began a medical school in 1975 and I was one of the founders of their medical student and psychiatry residency programs rising to become a Clinical Professor. I also served in several local, state and national posts for the American Psychiatric Association, leading a 14 month campaign that placed the association officially on record as being in support of universal access to healthcare.

I semi-retired to Seabrook Island, SC (the Charleston area) in 2003. I continue to work at a VA clinic, fill in for local hospitals, and play lots of tennis. Last year our team won the state championship for "old guys" (70 and above). I had three children: a middle school teacher, an ER physician and a dentist.  My first wife died of cancer in 1990.  During the past fifteen years I have been happily married to Bonnie.

E. Don Wagner

After LHS I went to college and received a Bachelors Degree in Business with majors in Finance and Accounting.  I went to work for Anchor Hocking in 1960. I was drafted into the US Army and spent two years on active duty and two year on active reserve status. I returned to Anchor Hocking and later was hired as the Business Manager, Controller and later Assistant Administrator for Lancaster-Fairfield County Hospital.  I went to graduate school at Ohio University and earned my MBA degree in 1979. I moved to Georgia in 1983 and worked from ConAgra Foods.  I was Accounting Manager then Complex Controller in Gainesville, GA. I was transferred to Duluth, Georgia as Corporate Controller of Revenue for ConAgra Foods, Poultry Division. I was responsible for 14 different complexes.  I retired in 2004 from ConAgra Foods.

For over 47 years I have been married to Roberta Smith (LHS class of 1959 and a Registered Nurse).   We have three children: a Registered Nurse, a Financial Analyst and a Pathologist.  All three are married and we have 7 grandchildren.  Roberta and I have traveled  countries around the world and especially enjoy cruising.

I was a District Governor for Lions Clubs International (Northeast Georgia).  I am currently the Treasurer of Lions International Trading Pins Clubs with over 750 members and in 25 different countries.  I have been Treasurer for two Chapters of American Red Cross and two different United Way organizations.  I am also a member of the Northeast Georgia Chapter #772 – Vietnam Veterans of America.
